Grand Cayman, Jan 08

Ocean Frontiers Pier with Eastern Skies - copyright Malcolm NobbsIn January I travelled to Grand Cayman to take part in Alex Mustard's photo week. On the second evening I attended the Cayman Island's film festival, associated with the International Scuba Diving Hall Of Fame at the Marriot Hotel on Seven Mile Beach. The next day I moved to Ocean Frontiers in the East End and I was relishing the chance to get diving.

I was greeted by some lovely staff at Ocean Frontiers and was shown to a fantastic sea view apartment overlooking the jetty and dive boats.

The week took the shape of action packed diving during the day and informative lectures in the evenings. The highlight of the week was a dawn trip to Sting Ray City to capture sting ray schooling behaviour in the morning light.

In terms of my photography the week was very successful, I worked hard on lighting and composition and feel that this shows in the gallery below. My shot of sting ray schooling has won the Young Photographer category at the British Underwater Image Festival.

Grand Cayman is a tremendous location for underwater photographers with its year long warm weather and stunning reefs with colourful inhabitants.
